As we come to the end of our second month of school, we are happy to say that the children have adjusted well to the school environment, our routines, rules, and their classmates. Each new day the children arrive eager and excited asking about our day ahead!
This month we learned more about the autumn season and the things that change during this season. We started off October learning a bit more about leaves, why they change colors and fall off the trees. To see this up close, we took a trip out to the playground on a windy day and watched & caught the falling leaves. Some other topics we learned about and explored were: “Friendship”, “Fire Safety”, “Pumpkins”, “Acorns” and “Hedgehogs”.
October was a busy creation month for us as well! The children created leaves for the letter of the week “L”. They each began by tracing the letter L template on colored paper, then decorated it with real leaves and fall stickers. We did some stamping with fall cookie cutters in brown, yellow and orange paints and topped with glitter. Next the children made a paper plate of a rainbow fish. They began coloring their paper plates in lots of colors, then choosing fins, googly eyes, and lastly glue was added and metallic gems were sprinkled. We did marble painting with squirrel cutouts, brown and yellow paint and marbles on a flat paint tray to roll across! We also made acorn names where each student received an acorn paper to color and buttons of different sizes were glued on. Next we outlined their names with dots and they traced over writing their names! Our last creation was thumbkin patches. We began by drawing the vines they grow on with green marker, then dipped their thumb in orange paint making a pumpkin print. Once dry, faces and stems were added. Pumpkin Painting was fun as well! Each child received a pumpkin and assorted colors of paint, then got to decide if they wanted to add stickers and glitter. More crafts we did this month were making leaf sun catchers and painting with forks!
Our introduction and practicing of our Lively Letters have the kids very excited to learn, trace and decorate a new letter each week. The letters we have covered so far include: L, F, E and H. Each week we review the letters and the children enjoy playing “ I Spy” and finding things in the classroom that start with those letters.
Some books that have been popular this month include: In the Middle of Fall, Lubna and Pebble, Whoever You Are, Rainbow Fish and The Big Blue Whale, Last Stop on Market Street, The PaperBoy, Me and My Family Tree, Millie Mae in Autumn, The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, Dogs Don’t wear Sneakers and The Grinny Granny Donkey.
Our song singing this month has included practicing: “Hands Go Up”, “Days of The Week”, and “What’s the Weather?”. We also learned a new one called “ Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate”
As always, please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you, Miss Paras & Mrs. Fagan
